The passport chip is a
government-signed cryptographic proof.
Every biometric passport issued since 2006 contains an NFC chip with the holder's data, signed by the issuing government's private key. WeVerify reads and verifies this signature, producing identity assurance that no forged document, AI-generated image, or synthetic identity can replicate.
How NFC verification works
Cryptography, not cameras.

Coverage & compatibility
190 countries. Every major document type.
Passport coverage
All ICAO 9303-compliant biometric passports from 190+ countries including all EU member states, UK, US, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and most of Africa and MENA.
National ID cards
NFC-enabled national ID cards including EU national IDs, Dutch DigiD-linked cards, German Personalausweis, French Carte Nationale d'IdentitΓ©, and equivalent documents across Europe.
Residence permits
Biometric residence permits issued in EU member states including the UK BRP. Commonly used for verifying non-EU nationals working in regulated industries.
Device compatibility
Works on NFC-enabled Android devices (Android 8.0+) and iPhone 7 and later. No special hardware required. The standard smartphone NFC reader is sufficient.
No app required
NFC chip reading requires the WeVerify Identity Wallet app, available for iOS and Android. The app acts as a reusable identity wallet: verify once and reuse across multiple services without re-verification.
GDPR-safe architecture
No biometric image is captured, transmitted, or stored by WeVerify. The chip data is processed locally on the user's device. Only the cryptographic proof result reaches the WeVerify platform.
